Tegen de achtergrond van een surrealistisch landschap van een verdwijnende stad, wordt Billy, een alleenstaande moeder van twee kinderen, in een macabere en duistere fantasiewereld gezogen. Haar achttien jaar oude zoon Bones ontdekt een geheime weg die leidt naar een onderwaterstad. Zowel Billy als Bones zullen diep in het mysterie moeten graven indien ze hun familie willen redden.
