Clark Griswold en zijn familie besluiten een tripje te maken naar Las Vegas. Hij verliest onmiddellijk zijn geld met gokken, aangespoord door de dealer. Zijn vrouw raakt in vervoering van de casino-zanger Wayne Newton en mag zelfs met hem op het podium zingen. In de tussentijd begeven hun kinderen zich in allerlei problematische situaties en wanneer ze hun maffe neef Eddie, die in de buurt woont, opzoeken zijn de gevolgen helemaal niet meer te overzien.
