De zestien jaar oude Craig (Keir Gilchrist) is overspannen door de stress die de problemen van een tiener zijn met zich meebrengen. Hij laat zich opnemen in een inrichting waar hij door het sluiten van de jeugdafdeling in de volwassenenafdeling terechtkomt. Hij wordt daar snel vrienden met Bobby (Zach Galifianakis), die zijn mentor en beschermer wordt. Craig voelt zich daar aangetrokken tot zijn leeftijdgenoot Noelle (Emma Roberts). Wanneer hem een minimale verblijftijd van vijf dagen wordt opgelegd, wordt Craig ondersteund door vriendschappen binnen en buiten de inrichting en leert hij meer over leven, liefde en de druk die opgroeien met zich meebrengt.
